I recently bought a flash drive for a class where I am required to have one. It came with no instructions. It's a Staples 1 GB. If I just plug it in, nothing happens. Step by step instructions on how to use this, please? How to use my new flash drive?
Steps:

1. Plug in the USB Flash Drive.

2. A window should pop up with files. (if not, try going to ';my computer';. then you click on the device)

3. Open the files and there should be your files.

4. If you have no files on it, you may save files onto your USB flash drive. Then on the bottom of the screen you should click ';Safely Remove Hardware'; to safely remove it.

if you need help, email me =]How to use my new flash drive?
well i will assume you are using windows but that wont help if you Operating system is different. Think of you new flash drive as a ';mini hard drive'; when you plug it in, you computer normally will pop up with a box that asks you what you want to do. Sometimes when its new it will not do this. If you go to My Computer you will see your drive there named something you will recognize . When new, it should be blank. You will use the space on the drive to keep files in and what goes in it depends on what you want in it. Just keep the window open and drag your files over to it and TA DA you have that file ready to use on your flash drive. To open it on another computer, plug your flash drive in the new computer and go to the my computer folder on that computer and it should show up. Also, you can not transfer files ( other than word, powerpoint, any office software) from a windows computer to an apple computer and vice versa.
When you plug it into a windows system you should here a Ding sound from the speakers. Most of the time a pop-up screen appears and asks you if you want to open it to view the files. If this does not happen check my computer. You should see a new drive there. It will be assigned a letter. Double click. If you don't see it try another computer. If you don't see it there, the drive is probably defective.
Once plugged in the computer should give you several options.

View files or open files is what you want.

If you don't see it just open the My Computer icon and you should see the drive.%26gt;%26gt; double click to drag and drop files on the thumb drive.

If you still can't access the new drive then it's broken and return it Staples for an exchange or refund.
you plug it in and you hit save or whatever and it will be a removable disk you can change the name so you remeber it but if you want to save word document and this pretty much goes for anything you hit save as then go to the drop dowm and pick the removavle disk and hit save then un plug it and see if you can view what you just saved
Go to start menu then press my computer. It should show up with a removable media or something like (F) or (E) take out the stick and watch it. Which ever one disappears is the flash drive. Then simply compy and paste files on there or drag and drop. then you can take out the drive and bring it anywhere with your files. =)
Ok here should be the steps.

1. insert the USB drive.

2. Go to your desktop and click on My Computer( the icon with the computer on it)

3. This should open a window and it should say Staples 1 GB

4. Click on that icon and drag your work into it or out of it.

Hope this helps!!! : )
Right click My Computer(Computer on Vista). Select Manage. Click on Disk Management. See if it shows up there. If it does, right click it and change the drive letter. Conflicting drive letters for automounted drives will do what you're describing.
plug it in, go into my computer, then you'll see it in removable storage, %26amp;%26amp; when you save on it, instead of saving where you ussually save it, fnd that folder in removable storage %26amp;%26amp; save it there. THERE U GO
Just plug it in and go to my computer it should be seen as an extra drive right click on it then click format and when the format is done now it is ready just copy and paste on it.
double click My computer and plug it in. you should get a new drive like G or J or a letter besides C or D... that's it, double click it and you can open and drag things to it
Plug it in. Then say if you type something and want to save it, click save and you'll be able to choose your external driver ( AKA your flash drive ).
plug it in..goto my computer..locate it there
plug it into your USB port. then goto ';my computer'; and click on the drive.
you should get a popup when you plug it in. try a different usb port
plug it in..... go to my computer ........locate it on there its under removable disc E (usually its e)
Since it is monday and the tech. support is open you should be able to call them and ask.
